I went to my first concert in a very long time last night. I told my 16 year old daughter that Claire and I were going to the Fleetwood Mac concert and she gave me one of those looks that says, “I have no idea who you’re talking about.”
"Are you kidding me, Elizabeth. You’ve never heard of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks and the 'Rumors' album?!"
Well, never mind, we had a great time. We sat so close that we could have handed Buckingham his next guitar (which he switched after every song).
It was great to see them all together: the eclectic Mick Fleetwood in red shoes and lederhosen, John McVie on bass, Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals and, of course, the band’s leading lady, Stevie Nicks (who I’ve had a crush on since 1977 - I think it’s our age difference that she’s never been able to get past!)
They, of course, played tune after tune that you would recognize, from their long list of hits from 40+ years of playing together. However, the highlight of the night for me was “Don’t Stop.” It seemed like the entire crowd was on their feet at the Air Canada Centre for this one; all of us singing along at the top of our lungs.
Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, Don't stop, it'll soon be here, It'll be, better than before, Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone.
I’ve been calling on a number of Avanti customers lately, discussing our upcoming Avanti User Group conference in May, and I’m very pleased to hear how busy many of them are – busier than they’ve been in a long time. Perhaps this Fleetwood Mac song should be played every day as folks arrive at the shop!
Forever the optimist, I think the printing industry is a lot like Fleetwood Mac. As Buckingham told us last night at the concert, there are “still chapters to be written."Or, as Dr. Joe Webb and Richard Romano wrote in their book ‘Disrupting the Future,’ “We must ourselves learn to disrupt the future with technology and innovation.”
All together now … “All I want is to see you smile, If it takes just a little while...”
